Black ice is considered one of the most dangerous weather anomalies on the road. Drivers dread running into such conditions. There are very specific factors to the creation of black ice, and once these factors are reached, you probably shouldn’t drive.
Black ice is basically ice that is frozen on the road…except it is completely see-through and takes on the color of the pavement, thus the name “black ice”. It is see-through because it has no air bubbles inside it. Any other kind of ice is usually visible and easily avoidable on the road. The clear factor of black ice is the main reason it is so dangerous.
In order for black ice to occur, the roads must be at least freezing, but the air can be a bit warmer, as long as the ground remains cold. Black ice is usually formed of raindrops or water drops that slowly form together before they are completely frozen, which is why no air bubble are trapped inside.
To sum up black ice, it is a dangerous icey road condition. It is also undetectible to the human eye. Caution should always be excersised when driving in these conditions.
Black ice, is ice that is transparent and very dangerous to drivers on the road. Black ice has little to none air bubbles inside it and takes the color of the material it is on top of which is usually black since the roads are asphalt. This black ice is also known as glare or clear ice and usually refers to a clear ice coating glazed over the road. Black ice is made from tiny drop lets of snow, rain ice, and sleet and sometimes even fog. For black ice to be formed, the surface it is on must be the below freezing point. It does not matter whether the air temp is is the same or not, just as long as the ground is the correct temperature. Regualr ice on roads is easily avoided for drivers because it is visible and the color white. Unlike black ice which is transparent. So...black ice is ice that is transparent so it blends in with the color of the surface it is on which makes it VERY DANGEROUS for drivers out on the roads.People should not drive on this ice because it can cause you to wreck and you could easily die from this car crash. That is my extra credit on black ice!!!
